Rediscover Beethoven's genius during the Columbus Symphony's triumphal Beethoven at 250 concert, which commemorates the 250th year since the legendary composer's birth. The Columbus Symphony and its fearless music director/conductor extraordinaire Rossen Milanov welcome the Columbus Symphony Orchestra to the stage for a performance of Beethoven's extraordinary Ninth Symphony, as well as Verdi's Stabat Mater.
Written and first performed in 1824 when Beethoven was profoundly deaf, the Ninth was to be his final complete symphony but by no means his least. In fact, it is beloved the world over and heralded as the greatest work of the western classical canon. This is thanks to its life-affirming subject matter (a testimony to the wonders of mankind) and uplifting Ode To Joy finale, which contains the best-known melody in all of classical music.
