Daniel Rowland Leads

Virtuoso violinist Daniel Rowland takes charge of the Columbus Symphony to conduct a program celebrating the timeless work of Baroque master Antonio Vivaldi, performing both the composer's own works and a modern reimagining of his most famous piece. The most popular of Vivaldi's concertos, his enchanting and magnificent Four Seasons, is essential listening for any fan of classical music, but how might one update it for the modern age while retaining that essence of a journey that celebrates and evokes the best of the seasons? Contemporary classical master Max Richter ponders just this in his marvelous take on the iconic work, imbuing electronica and minimalist elements into the piece to create something wholly original yet strikingly familiar.

The showcase of the composer's enduring work is not done there, though. A famous and ancient musical theme from European traditions is the centerpiece of Vivaldi's La Folia from his twelve trio sonatas, and his La Tempesta Di Mare concerto complete a program which, under Rowland's eye, is sure to delight.
